Choosing a PMU Clinic

How to Choose the Best PMU Clinic in Chennai

By Rebornurself, Chennai · Updated

Permanent makeup stays on your face for years, so the clinic you choose matters more than the price or the nearest location. Chennai has many studios offering microblading, powder brows and lip blush, and they vary widely in training, hygiene and results. This checklist covers what to look for, what to ask and which warning signs mean you should walk away.

1. Check Who Actually Does the Work

The skill of the artist decides the result, not the brand name on the door. Ask who will perform your procedure and what training they have. A good artist will happily tell you where they trained, what level they reached and how long they have been working. Be careful with clinics where a different, less experienced technician does the work after the consultation.

2. Look at Healed Results, Not Just Fresh Ones

Brows and lips look sharp and dark straight after a session, and almost any work photographs well on day one. What matters is how it looks after healing. Ask to see healed photos taken a month or more later, ideally on skin similar to yours. Look for crisp, even strokes or shading, natural colour without grey, blue or orange tones, and shapes that suit each face rather than one template for everyone.

3. Ask About Hygiene

Permanent makeup breaks the skin, so hygiene is not optional. Before you book, ask:

  • Needles and blades: Are they single-use and opened in front of you?
  • Surfaces and tools: How are the room, bed and reusable tools cleaned between clients?
  • Gloves and pigment: Does the artist wear fresh gloves, and is pigment poured into a fresh cup for each client?

4. Expect an Honest Consultation

A good PMU clinic will look at your skin type, brow hair, lip colour and face shape before recommending a treatment, and will tell you plainly if something is not right for you. For example, microblading often heals blurry on oily skin, where powder brows usually last better. Be wary if every client is sold the same procedure, or if nobody asks about your health, medication or skincare.

5. Make Sure You Approve the Shape First

Your brows or lip line should be measured and drawn on before any pigment goes in, and nothing should start until you are happy with how it looks in the mirror. You should also be able to choose or approve the shade.

6. Understand Healing and the Touch-Up

Every skin heals differently, so a touch-up session is a normal part of permanent makeup. Ask when it should be done, what it costs and what happens if your colour heals patchy. You should leave with written aftercare instructions and a way to contact the artist if you have questions while healing.

7. Read Real Reviews

Google reviews, Instagram tags and word of mouth from friends tell you more than a clinic's own website. Look for reviews that mention healing, how the artist handled questions and whether the client would go back.

Warning Signs

  • Prices far below other clinics, or pressure to book and pay on the spot.
  • Only fresh, heavily edited or filtered photos, and no healed results.
  • No questions about your health, medication or skin before treatment.
  • Promises that results are truly permanent, or that one treatment suits everyone.
  • Vague answers about who does the work or how tools are cleaned.

Questions to Ask Before You Book

  • Who will do my procedure, and what training do they have?
  • Can I see healed results on skin like mine?
  • Which treatment do you recommend for my skin, and why?
  • Is the touch-up included, and when should I book it?
  • What aftercare do I need, and how do I reach you while healing?

How We Work at Rebornurself

Rebornurself is a PMU studio in New Perungalathur, Chennai, near Tambaram. Every procedure is performed by our founder Sandhiya Srinivasan, a certified artist with a Master's Advanced Level in Permanent Makeup who also trains and certifies new PMU artists. You can start by sending a photo of your bare brows or lips on WhatsApp, and we will tell you honestly which treatment suits you, or if none does. At your visit we hold an in-person consultation, apply numbing cream, and map and draw your shape; nothing starts until you approve it. A touch-up can be taken any time between 30 and 90 days, and you can see our healed and fresh results in the gallery.
